The Beautiful Art of Mehndi!
In all photos where the henna appears black, the paste is still on!  The stain underneath will be pale reddish orange when the paste is removed and deepen over 48 hours to reddish brown.

Henna is a painless, temporary body art applied in a paste form with either a rolled cone (similar to a pastry bag) or with a small plastic squeeze type bottle fitted with a metal tip (similar to a mechanical pencil tip).

The paste is generally made of henna powder, lemon juice, brewed tea, and essential oils.  Henna powder is produced when the leaves of the henna plant are dried and ground into a fine powder.

Henna will stain skin in different shades ranging from pale orange to dark reddish brown and will last between one and three weeks.

Please note, henna is NEVER black.  If someone is offering you black henna, please walk away.  Black henna has an chemical additive called PPD which can cause a horrible reaction sometimes resulting in permanent scarring!  To read more about this visit
